Welcome Morning Tea

Our 2012 welcome morning tea was attended by more than 50 members and their guests.

We were pleased to welcome the CEO of City of Yarra, Andi Diamond, and to announce that the Council had found the extra funding required to go ahead with our new office in Stanton St. The tender has been let and work is due to start before the end of February. This is particularly good news in a budget period when our council has been finishing major community infrastructure projects such as the Collingwood Leisure Centre and Victoria Park. A number of council officers have worked very hard on our behalf so that our new accommodation can go ahead and in all our negotiations they have been most helpful.

The support of Yarra library staff and that of the neighbourhood houses which house our programs was also acknowledged.

The guest speaker, Michael Foley, really unlocked the mysteries of the MYKII system for us with an excellent presentation. He was gracious and unruffled in the face of a volley of questions and criticisms of the system from some members. We had to close off questions so that there was time to enjoy the morning tea but we will be including some of the key information in our next newsletter for those who were unable to attend.

As usual, our members provided a splendid morning tea which was organized by Alice Nugent assisted by Paul Chooi. These social functions are a great chance to meet new members and our tutors. They also demonstrate the generosity of our volunteer organisation as so many people make a contribution.

Royce Amiet has provided photos of a very happy morning.
